About Ray Maier

Raymond Maier (b.1951, Cleveland, OH) is seldom seen without a pencil in his hand. His medium of choice is Prismacolor Verithin pencil on coquille board (also known as stipple board).

He graduated with a B.A. in art education from Case Western Reserve in 1973 and has since worked in sales, newspaper printing, and as an art teacher. A voracious reader, his extensive knowledge of history and the natural world has informed his art, which includes drawings of fantastical creatures, whimsical space critters, historical figures and everything in between. He maintains an active artistic practice in his retirement.
